Caring for your smile while taking care of all the festivities and shopping that come this time of year may seem daunting. But we urge you not to neglect your oral health during this busy season. Especially when you are faced with all the sugary treats that come with this time of year. Today we’d like to share some must-dos that will help you keep your smile safe!

–Daily Care. According to the American Dental Association, everyone should brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes, every single day. You can support this healthy routine by choosing products carrying the ADA seal of acceptance. Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and be good for your gums, while a fluoride toothpaste is good for your teeth.

–Eating for healthy teeth and gums. You are likely going to be surrounded by festive and often sugary treats during this time. Whether you are faced with candies and cookies, beautiful pies and cakes, be sure to limit these and opting for crisp vegetables and fruits as well. Apples, carrots, and celery help clean your teeth of oral debris.

–Maintaining saliva production and avoiding dry mouth. Saliva protects your teeth and gums, so avoid dehydration and protect your smile with the help of lots of water. Sugary drinks might give you the energy boost you seek to keep up with the demands of this season, but water, especially tap water that has fluoride added will give your pearly whites an added boost.

–Protect your pearly whites. Engaging in physical activity is good for you, and if you are doing things that involve potential impact or injury, be sure to wear a mouth guard to keep the teeth and oral tissues safe.

–End-of-year cleaning and exam. Don’t forget to finish out the year maximizing your dental benefits with a cleaning. These are essential for keeping your smile cavity-free and your gums healthy and vibrant. Plus, getting rid of hardened plaque, or tartar can give you fresher breath!
