Now that the winter season is in full spring, you may have noticed that your toddler’s gums and teeth are more sensitive. Rest assured that this is completely normal. When the weather is very cold outside, the dry air can trigger pain trigger pain in the mouth.
While you can’t control the weather, there are certain things you can do to ease your toddler’s sensitivity and help them feel more comfortable. If possible, purchase a gentle toothpaste for your toddler that is specifically formulated for sensitivity. Toothpaste with fluoride is also a good idea as it can allow you add an additional layer of protection to your child’s sensitive enamel.
Show your toddler how to brush gently so that they don’t irritate their gums and teeth and add to the sensitivity. Another great tip is to keep a humidifier in their bedroom and/or playroom so that they breathe in moist air that is less likely to cause sensitivity.
You can also purchase a special hat and/or scarf that they can use to cover their mouth with while they are outside. These tips can help you ease your toddler’s sensitivity so they can thoroughly enjoy the winter season.
